Thanks to its strategic location, Francavilla al Mare allows you to travel from its sandy beaches to the mountains in very little time, thanks to its proximity to the Majella massif and the National Park of the same name.
A natural park “overlooking the sea”, with the mountains of the Majella Massif, the Monti Pizzi, the Monte Porrara group and the Morrone range, it is one of Italy’s green hearts, recognised among UNESCO Global Geoparks for its rich biodiversity. This international recognition pays tribute to one of the country’s most unique and distinctive places.
Less than an hour’s drive from Francavilla al Mare, you can reach Passolanciano, at 1,300 metres above sea level, and Majelletta, at 1,650 metres above sea level. Together, they form a ski area with a truly unique feature: the chance to ski on panoramic slopes with sea views.
In the warmer months, the lush nature of the beech and maple woods, the mountain pine scrub and the high-altitude meadows offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and trail running.
Finally, the Park is home to culturally interesting towns such as Sulmona, Guardiagrele, Corfinio, Palena, Fara San Martino, Pratola Peligna, Pacentro, Pescocostanzo, Manoppello, Caramanico Terme, Popoli, Serramonacesca and Pretoro.
